Rhythm and Repetition

Our assignment this week was to find real life representations of rhythm and repetition.

Dots....again. xD

Because I'm behind on blog updates, I'm not going to spend much time explaining each assignment. Here's a picture of my accordion book and my final 3D dot composition.

Larger than LIFE!!

I was so excited for this project, but now I'd like to never see another piece of cardboard ever again! :) The object I received was a starfish, yay! Out of my 3 proposals, the class picked my starfish suit! My first attempt at this, wasn't very thought out and I had to change it. Here, see for yourself:

This was supposed to be the limbs of the starfish.. However, when I put it on it wasn't very practical. So I discarded all of the pieces like this, and came up with a different plan. This time I think I got it!

I have work left to be done, but the final product will be one worth seeing. I hope. O_O

Dots, Squares, Dots in real life?

This is way late, but I'm doing it anyways!!
So remember those dots? Well we had to narrow down to just 3! Then with those three dots we had to make topographic maps. A contour and a magnetic one for each solution. I chose to put all of the same type on one page and make it one big map.

 My favorite was the magnetic, it was just much easier for me to see the paths it was going to form. The contour was a little more difficult to me. It's not that I didn't understand how to do them, but I just didn't enjoy them as much as the magnetic lines.

We were also asked to find dots in real life. My pictures aren't the best, my camera phone isn't top notch. But here they are:

Moving on, we had to test gesalt with squares. YAY! I got chewed out for my poor quality and my vagueness. :-/ So not my best work, but I learned what I need to do next time, and it can only get better from here right?

So there you have it.. I'm not completely caught up yet. So keep looking for more!!

Dots, Dots, And more DOTS!

My former roommate warned me of dots, but I figured it could be worse than last semesters Basic Design class I took. We had to draw lines. I think it was about 6 weeks of lines. Dots are so much better! Anyway, the assignment was to show proximity, similarity, and continuance through lines.

Cardboard Spheres!!!

I finally finished all of my sphere's today! Well more like yesterday, but you get the point. I had many ideas for this assignment, but putting it together was tricky. I changed ideas a few times with each one! But the final product was satisfying, and I hope I grasped the concept of the whole shibang!

So here is the first sphere: The surface/skin of a 

sphere. 
Basically I just wet some cardboard and made a ball! It was an interesting experience.

Next: The skeleton of a sphere.

This one started out as a pop-up sphere. But I soon realized that wouldn't work, so I went with this and loved it!

 Last but not least: A sphere without using glue or any adhesives.

My initial idea for this one was to make something like a mobile. However, the cardboard that holds it all together is a little flimsy, so it's a dancing sphere if you try to make it stand up on its own. :)

And there you have it, 3 cardboard spheres!

I enjoyed this experience, yet I don't think I ever want to see another piece of cardboard in my life. Oh wait, we still have a larger than life project. >_<

I suppose I can survive another cardboard project. :)

FIRST DAY OF WASH

The first day of WASH was...interesting. I wasn't sure what to expect after hearing many stories from my previous roommate. I knew we would be doing something with newspaper. However, I was not expecting a fashion show. I had two different idea's for my daydream/nightmare. And I decided on a Business Woman, though after walking down the runway I wish I had gone with my other choice. Nonetheless, it was a great experience, and I enjoyed seeing what everyone came up with. I'm looking forward to the rest of the semester and our LARGER THAN LIFE project!
